Healthcare waste refers to any waste produced by, and as a consequence of, healthcare activities. For the purposes of this document, this guidance also applies to offensive/gygiene and infectious waste produced in the community from non-NHS healthcare sources.
The document replaces de Health Services Advisory Committee's (1999) guidance document "Safe disposal of clinical waste".
The guidance has been revised and updated to take into account the changes in legislation governing the management of waste, its storage, carriage, treatment and disposal, and health and safety.
