LEED, a certification process developed by USGBC; BREEAM, developed by BRE; and the VERDE tool, developed by GBCe, are well-known and prestigious environmental and energy assessment tools for buildings, which contribute to
the application of sustainable construction strategies and provide a set of performance indicators for the standardisation, transparency and consistency of reported data to justify the implementation of energy efficiency measures and the savings attained through these. The growing use of these certification systems in healthcare facilities is having a notable impact on
the sustainability level of this type of building.
